Working in collaboration, colleagues from LTI, IMT the Estates division and the Language Centre were presented with a challenge to rejuvenate a dimly lit, malodorous and oddly shaped open-access PC room hidden away in the basement of 20 Kingsway into a bright and attractive modern language learning space and open-access PC room. The newly refurbished space features contemporary workspace furniture along with an attractive, nature inspired decor to provide a stimulating work and learning environment. Features include a number of individual work-bench height iMac stations along with a work-bench height group work table, also featuring iMacs. The room also comprises a separate area that includes low-level couches for reading and relaxed activities as well as regular desk height iMac stations. These are arranged in groups of four for active group based language learning and will in the next few months be equipped with multi-connected LCD screens to help facilitate collaborative learning.
